I think we’ve been here before.
No ID grandmother refused alcohol
Tina MacNaughton-Jones, 47, of Worthing, Sussex, was told she could not buy wine at the town’s Waitrose because she could not prove her age. Her 22-year-old daughter, who had ID, offered to buy the wine but was refused because she might “give it to her”. Waitrose said a member of staff had been a “little overzealous”.
A little overzealous? No shit sherlock. Overzealous doesn’t even begin to describe this stupidity. Not only would they not sell the wine to the grandma, they wouldn’t sell it to her of age daughter, because she might give the wine to her mother. Here’s a clue numbnuts: if the daughter is old enough to buy, then I bet the mom is too.

Gallivare, Sweden (AHN) – “A 77-year-old Swedish retiree Per-Eric Henriccson was asked by a local supermarket to show his identification card to prove that he was of legal age to purchase one case of beer.”
How do these people sleep at night? The idiot supermarket manager claimed that it is difficult for cashiers to guess people’s age. Well, who the fuck are you hiring? Are the clerks that stupid that they can’t tell the man is well over the age of 18? Did they think it was make-up? What’s the deal here? It can’t be that hard to tell if a 77 year old man is past age 18.
According to the AP’s story, Mr Henriccson had planned to by the beer for a gathering of the local senior citizens group. But no, the grocery store – through government fiat - had to prevent that little bit of fun.

Or don’t.
Sweetwater residents turned out at the downtown gazebo for a prayer rally, praying not for something but against alcohol coming to the restaurants in their town.
That’s right. There are people in Tennessee praying that a ballot measure to allow alcohol to be served in restaurants fails. And of course, it’s for the children:
“We want our children to grow up here without the influence of alcohol as much as possible,” says Barbara Raby.
And of course, the booze will bring social problems. All of this sound vaguely familiar.
Hmmmmm…..
Nah, couldn’t be.
