Hippy Gras

July 11, 2007

Ah, this lovely town full of wannabe hippies who want to control everyone else’s behaviour

Although it’s been considered a delicacy for centuries, foie gras has animal rights groups targeting local restaurants that serve it. Noah Cooper demonstrates with Central Texas Animal Defense and says Austin needs to follow in the footsteps of other cities and banish it from menus.

I shouldn’t be surprised. Austin is full of people engage in trying to determine appropriate behaviour for everyone else - from banning smoking in bars to trying to control the noise level downtown.

Not to mention, I do have a sadist streak anyway.

“Light” Smokers Need to Shut Up

July 10, 2007

A 2004 case filed by light smokers is coming up for a ruling soon:

The lawsuit filed in May 2004 argued that tobacco companies defrauded smokers into thinking “light” cigarettes were safer than regular ones.

They were defrauded?! Give me a freaking break. Did they miss the labels that are all over the packs of cigarettes telling you they are not safe:

I’m sorry, but if you’re saying you were defrauded, you are either the biggest idiot in the world, or you are the biggest liar in the world.

Where There’s Smoke There’s Fire

July 1, 2007

fire.jpgA government is like fire, a handy servant, but a dangerous master. – George Washington

Thank god the government is protecting us from smoking in bars, because now we can expect an increase in house fires.

Worryingly, it is expected that as a result of the smoking ban smoking in the home will gain in popularity – heightening the risk of a blaze.

Well, you know what. Obviously a ban on smoking in the home is needed. You might have visitors who are negatively affected by the smoke, and hell, you even might kill them in a fire.

This just shows what is wrong with the entire policy of smoking prohibitions: one problem (smoking in bars/restaurants) is replaced by another problem (an increase in home fires). And with each new problem the government creates or exaccerbates, there must be a government solution.
